The Last Compact Disk
The Last Compact Disk is a game where you control a weird CD that has a will of its own. Its will? Find Hob Wombley, and make him once again the proud owner of the last CD to still exist, one day in the sad future.
In about 2 seconds, you'll be able to jump again if you've just jumped - regardless of whether you're touching the dirty old ground. But if you try to fly, you will cry. Can you 100% this game, and uncover the secrets of the last disk?
Making this game in six and a half days was an enormous struggle. This is the kind of thing that calls for all the glory and excited yelling that an Internet can provide.
Music is done by me and Natalie Dowd. She composed and performed the music for levels 1 and 4.
I have decided to make the code in this game open source. I don't want you using the graphics or music, but with the actual programming you can go nuts.
Make sure you press S or the Down Arrow on your keyboard when you're in front of a door, depending on your control settings. That's how you advance to the next level.
You can press F2 to take a screenshot, which will be put in an obscure game save file bin. The filenames should be compliant for the next 997,972 years.
This is also the first game of mine to be started, built, and published entirely on a computer running Linux.
I was also thinking of possibly updating this game a few hours after posting this, to make it slightly better. For the time being we've published - on time - this version. We'll see if it does get more polish and a reupload in the last 20 hours that remain...
The current web port and source code files are on 1.0.0-b, a version I had to make later than I wanted that is still within the submission span of the jam. It just... had a very bad bug in it. That was a motivator to fix the bug and a few things else. The version 1.0.0-a can still be downloaded, but both versions where made at the correct time for the game jam and 1.0.0-b is much better. Even if it was just because of fixing that one bug.

You can download the game if you want. Even though this game is playable in the browser. If you do have the game on your computer, it's technically possible to mod it, and even distribute those mods. Anyway, this is currently just a .love file that runs with Love 11.5, which you'll have to download if you don't already have it. Things have taken a turn in my life, so there are no intricately compiled executables, apps, or Linux appimages right now. You can use the code that's in the .love file in an open source way. Just not the graphics or music.
